Further information
A spectacular hiking route through some of the most iconic landscapes of the Ampezzo Dolomites, surrounded by breathtaking scenery and the fascinating history of World War I.
The experience starts from the parking area near Rifugio Col Gallina and climbs towards the beautiful Limides Lake, a small alpine lake nestled beneath the majestic Tofane peaks and Passo Falzarego.
From here, the trail continues to Forcella Averau, an exceptional panoramic viewpoint offering incredible views over the surrounding valleys and the main mountain groups of the Eastern Dolomites.
The route then reaches Rifugio Averau and Rifugio Nuvolau, two of the most scenic mountain huts in the Dolomites, before descending towards the famous Cinque Torri area and Rifugio Scoiattoli.
Before returning, there is the possibility to complete a short loop around the towers, visiting the open-air World War I museum and the historic trenches once used by the Italian army during the conflict.
For those looking for a longer and more challenging experience, an optional ascent to Croda Negra summit can also be added.
The trail mainly follows single-track mountain paths with rocky terrain, never technically difficult, but best suited for hikers comfortable walking in alpine environments.
A perfect experience to discover the most iconic side of the Dolomites through nature, history, and unforgettable panoramic views.
